Today, I’m talking about the top 7 features that set the Starkey Livio Edge AI hearing aid apart from all the other hearing aids on the market.  Make sure you read until the end of this post where I’ll share an incredible bonus feature that truly takes this hearing aid to the next level!

Starkey Hearing Aids – Livio Edge AI

Top 7 Features

#1 – Thrive Hearing Control App

This app helps you take advantage of all the advanced sensor technology within the Starkey Livio Edge AI hearing aids. You have access to a fitness and brain tracker, fall detection and alerts, voice assistant, language translation, audio transcription, reminders, remote adjustment with your hearing healthcare provider including live video chat, connection to caregivers with ThriveCare, hearing aid self checks, and of course control over the sound of your hearing aids.

You can adjust the volume, programs, and sound equalization. Custom programs or personalized sound settings can be created and linked to specific locations using the location data from your smartphone. For example if there is a favorite restaurant you go to frequently, the hearing aids can automatically detect when you arrive and change to customized sound settings that you have created.  There is also a Mask mode that helps improve speech intelligibility while speaking with people wearing masks.

#2 – Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Starkey Livio Edge AI offers Edge mode which uses artificial intelligence sound processing to improve your hearing in challenging listening environments.  Just double tap the hearing aid to access this feature.  Edge mode listens to the sounds in your environment and optimizes the sound quality for improved speech clarity and comfort.  This can be especially helpful today when trying to communicate with other people while wearing masks, social distancing, and talking in background noise.

#3 – Rechargeable Batteries

All of the Starkey Livio Edge AI hearing aids come with rechargeable batteries whether it fits inside the ear or behind the ear.  The inside the ear models come in a variety of skin tones as well as a black case version which resembles other consumer electronics bluetooth earbuds.  Wearing this device may be more appealing to some people since it doesn’t look like a traditional hearing aid.  Also, rechargeable batteries are great since you no longer have to change your disposable batteries each week.  You just place the hearing aids into the charging case at night and they are ready to go in the morning.

#4 – Bluetooth Audio Streaming and Phone Calls

You can stream audio directly to Starkey Livio AI Edge hearing aids from iPhones, iPads, iPod touch, and some Android devices (including Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel).  For Android devices there is a list of specific phones that are compatible. If your smartphone is not compatible for direct audio streaming, you also have the option to stream audio using the Remote Microphone + accessory.  There are also other 2.4 Ghz wireless accessories available like remotes, several microphone options, and television sound streamers.

#5 – Intellivoice Speech Enhancement

This feature allows you to combine both the sound from your iPhone microphone and hearing aid microphones for improved speech understanding in noisy environments.  This enhancement is designed especially for those with moderate or greater hearing loss.  You can use your iPhone as a remote microphone to transmit sound from a person a distance away from you directly into the hearing aids.

#6 – Multiflex Tinnitus Pro

This feature provides different tinnitus masking sounds for tinnitus relief.  Tinnitus is also known as ringing in the ears.  Consult with an audiologist to determine if a tinnitus masker is appropriate for you.  Use of a tinnitus masker in addition to hearing aid amplification can help take your mind off of the tinnitus and make it less bothersome.

#7 – Tap Gestures

You have the ability to control your hearing aids with just a double tap with your hand.  As I mentioned previously, this gesture can be used to activate the artificial intelligence Edge mode.  Or, it can be used to start or stop audio streaming from your smartphone.  It can also activate the Thrive assistant within the app so you can use voice activated commands like “find my phone, remind me to call home, or mute my hearing aids”.

Bonus Feature

OK, so now for the bonus feature.  The Starkey Livio Edge AI hearing aid pairs directly to a camera device called the OrCam MyEye.  The OrCam MyEye connects visually impaired and blind people with their environment using advanced artificial intelligence assistive technology.  It attaches to your glasses and provides auditory feedback by recognizing objects in the room, identifying people around you, and even reading text to you.  This device has a small speaker that plays the audio to your ear, however when used with Starkey Livio Edge AI hearing aids, this audio feedback is wirelessly streamed directly into your hearing aids.  The OrCam MyEye provides these benefits without relying on an internet connection.
