Sonova & Sennheiser Consumer Division
Sonova provides innovative hearing care solutions and operates through the Phonak, Unitron, and Hansaton hearing aid brands as well as the Advanced Bionics cochlear implant brand. Sonova recently announced that it is acquiring the Sennheiser Consumer Division.
Sennheiser is well known for their professional audio equipment like microphones, headphones, audio solutions for business, and also bluetooth headphones and earbuds.
Sonova Acquires Sennheiser Consumer Division – New Hearables Technology?
Sonova’s acquisition of the Sennheiser Consumer Division could impact the hearable market. A hearable is an in-the-ear device that can combine technologies like Bluetooth connectivity, health tracking capabilities like heart rate and activity levels, voice commands, and also enhanced hearing.
I’m hopeful that hearables will give more people access to improved hearing and help consumers with hearing loss see the benefit of amplification. This may ultimately lead more people to see an audiologist to be fit with hearing aids earlier in life and also help reduce stigma associated with hearing aids.
Hopefully, we will soon see new products that combine Sonova’s hearing enhancement technology with Sennheiser wireless earbuds technology.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds
A current Sennheiser product is the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds. They include a custom sound equalizer, active noise cancellation, transparent hearing or the ability to hear ambient sounds, voice assistant, and a smart control app for iPhone and Android. I can’t wait to see whether Sonova releases a hearable device that combines all this cutting edge technology from Sennheiser with the sound processing of Sonova’s latest hearing aids and cochlear implants.
