Phonak Serenity Choice Ear Plugs – Features

Today, I’m talking about hearing protection from the hearing aid manufacturer, Phonak – the Phonak Serenity Choice reusable ear plugs.  These ear plugs reduce noise & loud sounds, provide ventilation of the ear, and also allow you to hear environmental sounds & speech.

The Phonak Serenity Choice resusable ear plugs are supplied with 3 ear tip sizes – small, medium, and large.  There are also two filters, one for each ear, that filter the sound in your environment to protect your hearing.  The ear plugs come with an aluminium carrying case with key ring.

The Phonak Serenity Choice reusable ear plugs are available in 6 different versions – Comfort, Music, Hunting & Shooting, Motorsport, Work, and Sleep.  The different versions of this product offer various amounts of sound level attenuation.  The level of sound reduction is indicated by the noise reduction rating (NRR) which is used in the United States and the single number rating (SNR) which is used in the European Union.

I’ll now discuss each version of these ear plugs starting with the lowest to greatest noise reduction rating.

Phonak Serenity Choice Ear Plugs – 6 Versions

Comfort: NRR 9 dB, SNR 16 dB

First, the Comfort version.  It has a noise reduction rating, NRR of 9 dB and single number rating, SNR of 16 dB.  Phonak indicates this version can be used to improve concentration, reduce stress, and reduce background noise like that found in an office or airplane.

Music: NRR 10 dB, SNR 17 dB

The Music version has a NRR of 10 dB and SNR of 17 dB.  Phonak indicates this version is for music venue listening protection with minimum occlusion.

Hunting & Shooting: NRR 12 dB, SNR 19 dB

The Hunting & Shooting version has a NRR of 12 dB and SNR of 19 dB.  Phonak indicates this version is for gun fire, explosions, fireworks, impulse and impact noises.  You can hear voices and background noise while maintaining sound directionality and spatial awareness.

Motorsport/Work/Sleep: NRR 16 dB, SNR 24 dB

Now, the next three versions – Motorsport, Work, and Sleep all have the same amount of sound attenuation – a NRR of 16 dB and SNR of 24 dB.  These offer the greatest amount of hearing protection of all the Phonak Serenity Choice products.

The Motorsport version is indicated for wind and engine noise, the Work version for power tools and machinery noise, and the Sleep version for snoring and other environmental noise.

Phonak Serenity Choice Plus – Custom Hearing Protection

OK, one last thing.  If you want custom made hearing protection, ask your local hearing healthcare professional about the Phonak Serenity Choice Plus.  This version offers the same hearing protection technology discussed today, however the ear piece is custom molded to your ear.  An ear mold impression by your provider is required.  You may consider this version if the ear tips provided with the Phonak Serenity Choice are not comfortable nor able to provide an adequate seal within the ear canal.
