The 10 Best Features of the Apple AirPods Pro include:
- Active noise cancellation
- Transparency mode (so you can hear sounds around you)
- Ear Tip Fit Test
- Automatic Ear Detection. This is an automated sound control when you insert or remove the AirPods Pro from your ear.
- Live Listen. This turns your iPhone into a wireless microphone and transmits sound to your ears.
- Spatial audio. This creates a surround sound experience for TV & movies.
- Headphone accommodations. This provides customized sound for music, media, and all the sounds around you according to your hearing preferences.
- H1 chip. This provides quick, on board audio processing.
- Sweat and water resistant (IPX4) – meaning resistant to splashing water
- Long Battery Life. More than 24 hours after recharging several times in the case. 4.5 hours life per charge.
So, I’ve now had the opportunity to use the AirPods Pro for a week, and I’d like to share my pros and cons.
AirPods Pro Review – Pros
The automatic noise cancellation is very effective when you have a good seal in the ear canal. I was impressed how much sound it blocks out. When listening to music, the surrounding noise in my environment is even less noticeable. Also, noise cancellation helps you to hear your music while listening at a softer, safe listening level. The AirPods Pro also work with the Apple Health App sound level monitoring so you can know if your music is getting too loud.
The AirPods Pro work great for Zoom calls or any phone call. You can use Transparency mode which allows you to hear the sounds around you, so that you can hear and monitor your own voice level. I’ve used other headphones on calls before and always struggled to hear myself when speaking, so this is a huge benefit to using this product.
Headphone accommodations give you the option to run an in-the-ear calibration to customize how the AirPods Pro play sound. You can emphasize speech sounds for better clarity and understanding using custom transparency mode. This is similar to what a hearing aid can do. I still recommend that anyone with hearing concerns see their local audiologist or physician for an evaluation and hearing aid consultation if appropriate. The AirPods Pro automatically work with other compatible devices logged into your iCloud account. So, I can easily use them with an iPhone and then switch to an iPad or other apple device within my iCloud account without re-pairing them each time.
Siri uses the AirPods Pro to read your text messages to you, and you can speak back your response. Everything is voice activated, so you don’t even need to look at your iPhone.
The charger case is very convenient since you have access to multiple charges. Everytime you place the AirPods Pro in the case, they will begin to charge.
I appreciate how the AirPods Pro are shorter and more compact than the original AirPod design.
AirPods Pro Review – Cons
I noticed that the ear tip seal within my ear canals is not always secure. Each AirPod works its way out of the ear gradually, so I have to adjust them occasionally. You have three ear tip sizes to pick from. Complete the Ear Tip Fit Test to find the best seal.
I can change the volume on the AirPods using Siri, with the volume control on my iPhone, or with the digital crown on my apple watch. However, there is no way to change the volume directly on the AirPods Pro. I would also like to mute the microphone directly by touching the AirPod.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I really enjoy using the AirPods Pro and definitely recommend them to anyone using Apple products. They will work with non-Apple Bluetooth devices, however you must use them with Apple products to take full advantage of the features available within iOS 14. The ease of use across all your iCloud devices make this product especially attractive. Remember to check out the link HERE to learn more about the AirPods Pro and to get the latest pricing.
