Today, I’m talking about the HomePod mini from Apple. I recently purchased this smart speaker, and I’m excited to try it out. For the latest pricing, check out the link in the description below. To see the unboxing, watch the YouTube video above.
HomePod mini features
So, what are the key features of the Apple HomePod mini?
360 Degree Audio
It’s designed to project sound in all directions, something Apple calls 360 degree audio which is designed to fill the room with sound. It uses “computational audio” or real time processing to provide balanced sound at all volumes from crisp high frequencies to the low end, bass sounds.
Hey Siri
You can access Siri, by saying “Hey Siri” just like you would with your iPhone. This feature is similar to other smart speakers like those from Amazon and Google. The HomePod mini uses 4 microphones and noise cancellation to listen for the “Hey Siri” command. Siri can recognize up to 6 different people in your household.
Smart Home Control
The HomePod mini can be also used as a smart home control. You can use Siri to control other enabled devices in your house like the lights, locks, cameras, or even the thermostat using the Home App on your iPhone. Now is this a feature that you’ve ever tried on any other device? I’d really like to know what you think about it. Let me know in the comments below.
Connectivity
You can connect multiple HomePod minis. You can use two of them together for stereo sound on your TV, use several throughout your house to play music in different rooms, or use them like an intercom system throughout your house. If you want to switch audio between them, just bring your iPhone close to the HomePod mini to activate it and follow the iPhone prompts.
Intercom
You can take phone calls on the HomePod mini and also send voice messages to it from an iPhone or Apple watch. Whoever is near the device can hear the message and then respond back.
You can activate the intercom within the Home app under HomePod settings. Then you can say to Siri “Intercom…” followed by your message. The recipient can then say, “Hey Siri, reply” and then add their response. If you say, “Hey Siri, tell everyone” it will send the message to all connected HomePod minis.
HomePod mini Controls
You control the HomePod mini with the touch controls on the top of the device.
- Tap the device to play or pause music.
- Double tap to skip music.
- Triple tap to skip back.
- Touch and hold for Siri, or use Hey Siri command if it’s enabled.
- Tap or hold +/- to change the volume.
