iOS 15 Preview
Today, I’m talking about three new iOS features for people with hearing loss and tinnitus. iOS 15 is expected later in 2021, so please subscribe to https://www.youtube.com/profithearing and hit the bell icon to be notified of upcoming videos on how to use these features.
Audiogram Import
Import a paper or PDF audiogram. You can use the latest hearing test from your audiologist and apply that threshold data to the headphone accommodations setting. Currently, you must import audiogram data into the Health App by using an app like the Mimi hearing test app on your iPhone. With iOS 15, you’ll no longer need to rely on a hearing test app to obtain thresholds. Headphones accommodations help make the audio on your headphones more sharp and clear. You can also use this feature with AirPods Pro to amplify environmental sounds.
Background Sounds
Access background sounds including stream, balanced/bright/or dark noise, ocean, and rain. You can have these background sounds play continuously at a low volume level so that they mask other unwanted sounds in your environment. They may provide relief and relaxation to people with tinnitus or anyone who wants to listen to sound in the background while using their iPhone. If you experience tinnitus, please consult with your physician or local audiologist for evaluation.
Conversation Boost – AirPods Pro
Use Conversation Boost for AirPods Pro. This feature improves sound for people with mild hearing challenges by using computational audio. The microphones use beam forming technology to reduce the background noise level so that it’s easier to hear the person in front of you. You also have the ability to reduce the ambient noise level on your iPhone to maximize your ability to hear and understand speech.
