Today, I’m talking about the Runmus gaming headset. So why use a headset for distance learning or virtual school? Well, a headset has a built-in mic so you can hear better and be heard more clearly. Less background noise and distractions means better focus and success in the classroom. Using a headset is a great idea for both teachers and students.
Today, I have the Runmus gaming headset in red. It’s also available in grey and blue. I recently purchased this headset, and I’m excited to try it out. It is currently a number one best seller on Amazon with over 32,000 reviews. It is also very affordable at around forty dollars making it very accessible to students and teachers.
So, let’s get started with the unboxing. So on these headphones we’ve got some soft cushioning which should be comfortable for more long-term use, and I would assume that it makes a good seal around the ear. I’ll have to try these out, but it should have a nice seal around the ear. We have an adjustable headband so you can change the height of this device so it fits your head better. The microphone moves up and down so when you’re wearing these you can have the microphone close to your mouth so you get good clarity of your speech sent out to everybody on the call.
My first impression is it feels kind of bulky, kind of big, and a little heavy. That’s just my first impression of it, but we’ll have to try it out. As far as the headphones themselves, there are no other adjustments or controls on the earphones. One thing I noticed is the cord itself seems pretty durable. It’s thick and has a braided cover. Then here we’ve got the volume control wheel for adjusting your volume up or down. To mute or unmute your microphone, you just flip the switch back and forth.
The cord is also long. The spec said it’s about seven foot long, and it’s got a nice little strap here to keep it all together. That gives you plenty of length to work with, especially if you’re using this with a gaming console. That way you can connect this straight into your gaming console and still be able to sit a distance away from it. If you’re using these headphones with your laptop, you want to use this plug. This has three lines on it, and it’s called a TRRS plug and basically it allows for the stereo headphones and a microphone to transmit information back and forth.
Remember, these headphones have the ability to light up. They have a little red light in them. In order to get that to work, you have to use the USB connection. The USB connection here for these headphones only exists to power the lights, and then you use the other plug for the audio. Let’s see if we can see the red lights here. As you can see the red lights are located on both sides of the headset and also on the microphone.
Runmus Gaming Headset Pros/Cons
Ok, so let’s talk about some of the pros and cons of this product.
Some of the PROS include: a retractable microphone, a microphone mute switch, comfortable for longer use, affordable budget option.
Some of the CONS include: average sound quality (speech is OK but music sounds dull), it’s bulky and heavier than expected, the ear cups do not provide a good seal along the bottom (at least for my ears), and background noise reduction is minimal.
So my first impressions of this product is I think it’s a good headset for kids. They’re going to be using it in a virtual school learning environment. It’s going to provide sound that’s good enough for understanding clarity of words. It’s going to pick up the voice of the student and send the voice out to the classroom. People are going to be able to hear and understand better. It’s going to serve those purposes of communicating and being able to function well in a virtual school environment.
Overall, this is a budget headset for kids that will help them stay connected while attending virtual school or while gaming. If you want a more premium headset, I’d recommend purchasing something else at a higher price point. Gaming headsets by SteelSeries or HyperX have great reviews. I’ll be looking forward to trying some of their products in a future post.
